My dear friend, Rodger, had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. When he was asked where he wanted his get-well cards sent, he said that he wanted no cards. Rather, he wanted his friends to write letters to the editor of their local newspapers about ending poverty and saving the lives of starving children worldwide.

Would that our national leadership and Congress had such a heart for the wellbeing of others! This week Congress is planning on passing huge cuts to Medicaid, which almost half of all families in our community with young children rely upon for basic health care. Most of those families have working parents, yet they cannot afford to take their children to the doctor without help.

Thank goodness our Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell and Rep. Randall will vote to save Medicaid. But they are in the minority. Please thank them.

And here’s to your speedy recovery, Roger!
