This month, we are exploring the theme of healing and the many ways we can help ourselves, one another, and our world heal. Healing can take many forms. Sometimes we heal by remembering and honoring the people and experiences that have shaped us. Sometimes healing happens through kindness, inclusion, connection, or simply taking time to notice and appreciate the good things in our lives. We will have a memory altar set up for this month and invite families to send photographs, flowers, and/or small treasures to represent loved ones they have lost up to the children’s program with their children. We request that you avoid sending up any food for the altar.
November 1: Healing Through Memory
This week, we are looking at the hurt that arises from loss and how we can heal that through memory. As we do that, we will have the chance to learn about All Souls Day (Nov. 2), Samhain (Oct. 31 - Nov. 1), and Dia de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead (Nov. 1-2).These holidays remind us that all cultures and faith traditions have a way of dealing with death and loss through memory, which will help us clarify our own ways of finding healing through memory.
