KUUF Safe Congregations Trainings Sunday, August 13 and Sunday, August 20
An important part of our Unitarian Universalist faith has to do with cherishing and honoring each other, with all our differences in spiritual beliefs and self-identities. In this light, your KUUF Safe Congregations Committee has continued working to make KUUF as safe as possible for all of us, because this is the way we best care for each other.
Below are our current efforts on behalf of our Beloved Community’s safety:
Safety monitors and ushers discussed evacuation plans (in the event of fire) with Eric Howlett on July 16. Eric is developing final plans to present to the congregation at a later date.
More volunteers are needed to be safety monitors, i.e., someone to address overall safety (such as making sure exits are not blocked, stove not left on, getting help in the event of a medical emergency, etc.) Contact Jerry Butler if you are interested.
Planned trainings for safety monitors and anyone else who is interested:
De-escalation training at the Adult Education program on Sunday, August 13th. This training will have to do with compassionate listening and responding to someone who is distressed.
First aid/use of the heart defibrillator by our Parish Nurse, Jennifer Heisleman, on Sunday, August 20 after the service.
Future trainings: how to deal with an active shooter via a widely endorsed method identified by the acronym “ALICE training”*.
