Joseph Bednarik presents God as Metaphor

10:30am, Sunday November 2, 2025

Next Sunday our lively congregation of theists and atheists, mystics and mechanics explore the use of a powerful linguistic practice: The creation of metaphors. Sharing the words and ideas of revolutionary astronomers, leaping philosophers, and visionary poets, we will focus attention on the miracle of our existence and wonder aloud whether God is Love.

Joseph Bednarik is a frequent speaker at KUUF and retired co-publisher of Copper Canyon Press. He lives in Port Townsend.

KUUF AUCTION 2025: Now Let Us Sing: Celebrating 75 years of KUUF

The 2025 KUUF online Auction is nearly upon us. This is one of the biggest fundraisers of our year. Our overall goal is $24,000 and YOU are key to the success of this important fundraiser. It’s time for you to enter your donations (items, events, and services) into the online auction catalog! Click here to DONATE ITEMS.

We’ve written a “How to Enter a Donation Online” help document. You can access the Help Document here. Stop by the Auction Table after services on Sundays to speak with members of the Auction Committee for questions or to get some help with your donations.

Think of what your passion is, a hobby you love, or something you currently own and are ready to part with. How can you share those with others as an auction event or item? Don’t discount what bidders will find interesting or attractive!

Here are some donation ideas as well as specific examples from the last few years:

• ADVENTURES – Personally led trips, tours, walks, hikes

• CANDIES, CAKES, AND PIES - Delivered

• DINNERS – Delivered or catered

• ENTERTAINING EVENTS – In your home, in a park, on the beach

• GIFT CERTIFICATES – to a favorite restaurant, bookstore, or other local business

• HATS, SCARVES, SWEATERS, – Handmade or collectable

• JEWELRY – Handmade, new, or very gently used

• LABOR – Teaching or doing

• FURNITURE – New or in excellent usable condition

• ELECTRONICS – New only, original packaging with instructions

• CLOTHING - Hand-crafted, collectible, new with tags

• SPECIALTY ITEMS - Creative, unique – New, very gently used

• A guided walk in the local woods or to a local park/beach and light lunch for 8-12 attendees

• A family-friendly role playing game with snacks and beverages provided for 6 attendees

• A matching set of vintage earrings and pendant

• A homemade pizza party for 6 attendees

• Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Giant Croquet Game in the park

• A week’s stay at a vacation cabin in a beautiful location

• A loaf of fresh, home-baked sourdough bread delivered to the winning bidder

• A pot of delicious, hearty, home-made soup delivered to the winning bidder

• A trio of home-made soaps
