Active Shooter Training: Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 pm
The UUA has taken a proactive stance towards congregational safety in all its forms and urges individual fellowships to do the same. Our Safe Congregations Committee has provided the congregation with a training on how to de-escalate a tense situation and on basic first aid and CPR/AED and has drawn up a fire safety evacuation plan for all three of our buildings.
The committee has scheduled an active shooter training for safety monitors, greeters, ushers and anyone else in the KUUF congregation who wishes to attend on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 pm. The training, which will be conducted by the Kitsap County’s Sheriff’s office, will follow a modified ALICE format and will last about 1.5 to 2 hours. (ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate.) While it is distressing that we need to be thinking of something like this, our children are already receiving this kind of instruction in their schools routinely, and it is the committee’s mission to enhance the safety of the KUUF congregation.
