Notes from the Ministerial Selection Committee

Your Ministerial Selection Committee: Brian Watson, Jill Clarridge, Redge Campbell, Jane Chapin and Shawn Ultican. We have met several times and are working on two tasks. These are:
- Launch the questionnaire and compile our answers;
- Fill out the application for a Developmental Minister and send it into the UUA.
It is important to discuss again the difference between a Developmental and Settled Minister. A Developmental Minister is contracted by the KUUF board and usually has a two or three year term. At the end of that term both sides of the agreement have the opportunity to change it into a “call”, in other words the Congregation as a whole then has the opportunity to vote on this Minister. In this case, then the Developmental Minister would become a Settled Minister if we voted to “call” this person.
This process is different than ones we have experienced in the past in that we will receive one Ministerial choice at a time. We may choose to take that minister or we may choose to pass and move on to the next Minister.
This is a serial process. And has been a wonderful eye-opening process with over 90 members and friends
responding so far! We will synthesize the comments and fill out the application by April 15th. By the time the next Candle comes out, we will have applied to the UUA, but we will have email blasts as each significant step gets taken. Sometime in early May we will receive the match and have an opportunity to make a decision about whether this person would be a good match for us.
When we put together the April Candle, we will not have received a match. But, we can tell you a lot about ourselves and what we have learned from the questionnaire. Please check for next month’s article.
Its our goal to be as transparent and upfront as possible. If you have a question as we move along here, please give Peggy Kent a call.
