Anti-Racism Committee

The Anti-Racism Committee (ARC) was established in 2000 to provide education and information on issues of racism, diversity and multiculturalism for KUUF members and friends. This committee meets on the second Sunday of every month immediately following the 11 a.m. service.

The ARC accomplished the following activities during the 2002-03 KUUF year:
· Sponsored two well-attended Sunday services-one presented by Rev. Suzelle Lynch on the "Value of Diversity," and the other in celebration of the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. featuring guest speaker Lionel Collins.
· Wrote the Rainbow World column during Suzelle's sabbatical, and have continued to provide columns on a bi-monthly basis.
· Represented KUUF at community events including the 2002 Kitsap County Council for Human Rights Annual Conference in December 2002 and the county's birthday celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in January 2003.
· Designed an informational display to promote KUUF and the Anti-Racism Committee. The display was-and will continue to be-used at selected community events. A banner will also be purchased to be used at community events.
· Held a multicultural book sale and raffle for KUUF in November 2002, with proceeds benefiting future workshops and training opportunities in diversity, anti-racism and multicultural issues for KUUF members.
· Donated $150 in multicultural books from book sale proceeds to the KUUF Religious Education Program.
· Created and donated multicultural gift baskets for the 2002 KUUF Silent Auction and book sale raffle.
· Participated in the "Kitsap Is Too Great For Hate Campaign," Human Rights information booth at the Kitsap County Fair, and Rev. Danielle DiBona's visit with multiracial families.
· Currently surveying the KUUF Membership on their information and education needs in the areas of racism, diversity and multiculturalism. Survey results will assist the committee in its future planning.
