April/May Fund Drive Underway for School Tuition to Benefit Brayan, Tanya and Brandon

By RuthAnn McCann

Families at the Dumps is now known as FAMILIES DE ESPERANZA, as the dump as we have known it is now a recycle station open 24/7.

Trucks come in one at a time and after the workers have gone through and removed everything that can be recycled another truck comes in, gathers the remaining debris, and takes it to another location for decomposition. Workers who lived within the dump are now living at the base of the recycling station, which is a vast improvement.

The three children we sponsor, Brayan, Tanya and Brandon do well in school and I’m hopeful that we can make it possible for them to continue their education. April 3-30 and including May 1, 2011 are the dates set aside for your consideration of donating towards this goal.

It will take $750 U.S. dollars to allow all three to continue their education dream. At the Mission, which is within the living area at the base of the recycling station, adult education classes are now provided three times a week along with care of infants, toddlers, and pre- kindergarten classes. A food bank and co-op store are open daily and medical care is available as required. The Mission will celebrate their 5th year anniversary this year and they are hopeful the housing project will be completed by then. Also, the Mission extends a “Thank you to all of you who support the Mission with your time, energy, prayers and dollars”.

I feel privileged to be the one who visits Brayan, Tanya and Brandon each year, witnessing them growing into beautiful, more confident individuals. I also see their parents who are so proud as they express their appreciation for their children being able to attend school.

Together, let’s continue to make it possible for them to stay in school by donating towards their school tuition. Please see a display in the foyer and a box in which to place your donations for Brayan, Tanya and Brandon. Thank you.

If you are wondering what to donate, here’s some ideas: tickets to movies, concerts, events; restaurant gift certificates, boating trips (crabbing, a sunset champagne cruise, a Blake island trip or from Liberty Bay to Manchester); computer tutorials— advanced Word, Excel, Photoshop, Facebook.

If there is something you would love to see offered, tell us and we’ll try to find someone who will donate it. Send us an email at auction@kuuf.org.
